KUUMBA: (KOO-OOM-BAH) -- One of the Seven Principles of the African American cultural holiday-Kwazaa; means "Creativity".

Kuumba celebrates creativity, pride, tradition and culture of the African-American experience and makes use of our creative energies to build and maintain a strong and vibrant community.

Crafted to exemplify the dynamics and elements of the art form of dance, KUUMBA Dance Ensemble was created through the vines of vision, ministry, and excellence.  We celebrate the gift that was given to each of us as dancers and to share with you a craft that was achieved and perfected through much pain, tears, laughter, and practice.  As a symbol of our transcending into the next dimension of ministry, evangelism, and blessings (all in the name of the Most High) we worship the King and display His glory through the magnificent are of dance.

Unashamed to prophetically speak strength, comfort, and encouragement to others--which helps not only to edify the soul, but uplifts the church as well, our goal is that every student, onlooker, and witness to our craft will have gained similar insight into the ministry of dance.  In that intimate place with Him, He rebuilds the foundation upon which we worship Him in the dance.  As instruments of praise and worship, with prayers and through God's presence, we honor a mano who saw something in us that we may not have seen in ourselves.

We come to "Praise Him in the Dance" because the spirit of the Lord is upon our hearts as we dance before His throne.
